Madrid, June 6, 2018

Bioscicat, the Catalan Society of Sciences for the Conservation of Biodiversity, has appointed the journalist Cristina García Baylo as Director of Communications and Political Incidence.

With a degree in Information Science from the University of Navarra, she has an extensive experience in the media, having worked for RNE, Onda Cero, Antena3tv, Canal 9tv, Europroducciones, Radio España, Radio Voz and Punto Radio, as the person in charge of relations with different political parties.

After years practicing journalism, she made a leap into political communication where she worked with José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Alfredo Rubalcaba, Jesús Caldera and Pedro Sánchez, among others.

In the field of communication and the management of press offices, she has been Director of Communications and Political Incidence of the organization 'Plan International', head of press in the 'Secretaria Autonómica y de Relaciones Institucionales' of the PSOE, Director of Communication of 'IDEAS para el progreso' and the 'Fundación Españoles por el Mundo', in addition to advising companies and political and institutional positions on communication. She has extensive experience in the third sector and has participated in the development and implementation of different charitable causes related to Human Rights.

The incorporation of Cristina García Baylo to BIOSCICAT responds to the need to strengthen an unprecedented strategy launched by this scientific entity: its purpose is to reorient social thought towards a culture of respect for nature and for all forms of life, in such a way that, in the long term, an individual and collective attitude is created, which becomes a characteristic and identity mark of our society. Therefore, we try to articulate innovative communication formulas, such as the production of documentaries and film productions aimed at the general public.

Cristina García Baylo is also in charge of a large department that includes the management of the press office, relations with the online and offline media, the launch of campaigns through the media, conferences and scientific reports, in addition to working so that Bioscicat, as a scientific entity, influences public policies, facilitating changes in legislative regulation and a greater allocation of public resources for the conservation of biodiversity.
